Dumpster Rental Prices in Long Island, NY

Prices checked October 2026 · Includes delivery, pickup, 7-day rental and disposal allowance
Short answer: a standard 20-yard roll-off on Long Island runs $650–$876, and where you are matters: Nassau towns quote lower than Suffolk, and eastern Suffolk is the priciest end of the market. A Suffolk County contract rate puts a 20-yard at $650 including 4 tons — retail runs higher.

Long Island pricing is thin — few haulers publish per-size prices. Anchors: a Suffolk County DPW contract table (10 yd $450 incl. 2 tons, 20 yd $650 incl. 4 tons, 30 yd $850 incl. 6 tons, overage $135/ton — contract rates, retail runs higher), S&A Container's 40-yard transport rate ($800–$999, disposal extra), and Dumpsters.com town ranges (Nassau $438–$876; Suffolk $520–$1,651 — the Suffolk ceiling sets the top of the 30/40-yard ranges). Disposal on Long Island runs about $135/ton, which is why prices sit above mainland suburbs. No published 15-yard price was found — shown as such rather than estimated. Your exact quote depends on debris type, how long you keep the bin, and how far the truck drives.

What makes the price move

Weight overages. Go over the included tonnage and most haulers charge roughly $50–$100 per extra ton. Heavy debris (concrete, dirt, shingles) hits the limit fast — that's what the smaller 10-yard "heavy debris" bins exist for.

Extra days. The standard rental is 7 days. Extra days typically run $10–$25 per day, or a flat fee per week. Ask before you book, not after.

Debris type. Clean construction debris is cheapest. Mixed household junk is mid-range. Tires, mattresses, appliances with refrigerant, paint and anything hazardous cost extra or are refused outright.

Do you need a permit in Long Island?

There is no county rule — permits are town by town, and incorporated villages run their own programs. In the Town of Hempstead, a roll-off on any town street needs a Highway Department permit (hauler guides cite a $10 fee per container covering 14 days, plus a $1M liability insurance certificate). The Town of Oyster Bay likewise requires a permit application for street placement. Fully on a driveway or private property: no permit in either town.

How to pay less

Book the size you're sure about, not the size you hope for — one 20-yard bin is cheaper than two 10-yard swaps. Keep the rental inside 7 days. Load heavy material evenly and don't fill past the rim; an overloaded bin gets refused and you pay a trip fee anyway. If your project is flexible, ask about weekday delivery pricing — some haulers discount off-peak drops.
